India has risen to become the world’s fifth-largest military spender, spending $92.1 billion in 2025, according to the SIPRI report. This marks an 8.9% increase from the previous year and accounts for 3.2% of global military expenditure.
India’s growing defence budget reflects regional security concerns, particularly in the context of tensions with neighbouring countries. The funds will be used to modernise the military with the acquisition of cutting-edge technologies, such as fighter jets, drones, warships, missiles, and surveillance systems.
