Each slab is chosen to match the emotion, weather, season, events as best as possible.
The rocks are all from throughout the state of wisconsin, or U.P, all will be, many chapters or parts of story have been sectioned out with rocks matching from around a decade of rockhounding collection, although the slabs have to be within an exact range of size, and have to be harder than a pocket knife or close, to be used.
The rocks are cut by hand, then ground on flat lap on 180 grit, then i put them into tumbler with 400/600 silicon carbide, the reason is i do not want them to look modern or manufactured/factory, i dont want wet look/glassy surface. I want the colors and pattern to be seen but the focus to be on the text, just enough for contrast. For the coarse engraving of letters against the polish.
I want it to look ancient, pre historic, worn by time. Velvet texture to tug on the skin.
