Traditional wool and horsehair mattress made by hand

This handmade mattress is the most comfortable to sleep on. It is made with two huge layers of wool to give it softness and warmth, and an inside layer of horse tail hair to give it support. For centuries this was how it was done. Stitched by hand, using beeswax to lubricate the thread. They never would throw away their mattresses, but open them up, clean and re-card the wool and horsehair, and re-sew it back up. What a testimony of quality materials made to last - not to be thrown away. How lovely and sustainable!
