A Mortician's Visit to The Gift Of Life: An Organ and Tissue Donation and Procurement Facility

Kari Northey, a funeral director and embalmer (Mortician), took a day to visit the Gift of Life in Michigan.

"Gift of Life Michigan, headquartered in Ann Arbor, is the state's only federally designated organ and tissue recovery program, providing all services necessary for organ donation to occur in Michigan. We’re a non-profit organization working 24 hours a day all over the state as a liaison between donors, hospitals and transplant centers."

Funeral directors and the Gift of Life work hand in hand to care for deceased and honor their donations of organs and tissues. Kari wanted to find out onsite what actually happens and how can the process be as smooth as possible for embalmers and the families.
