New infestations of varroa mites in honeybee colonies detected in NSW
Two new infestations of varroa mites have been detected in honeybee colonies in the towns of Wyong and Jerrys Plains, according to the NSW Department of Primary Industries.
Varroa mites are parasites of honeybees which can cause entire colonies to die if left untreated.
A movement control order is currently in place to reduce the spread of the mites to other honeybee colonies.
The new infestations bring the state's total number of infested premises to 36.
