How to use video for SAFETY - The problem facing #safetyprofessionals
You’ve got the KNOW-HOW, but you can’t COMMUNICATE! 🤷♂️
The problem facing #safetyprofessionals
So, I’ve made a lot of safety communications and worked with a lot of safety teams.
In every company there are people who know about SAFETY.
And mostly, they care passionately about SAFETY.
But they’re not COMMUNICATORS. 📢
Companies have the in-house knowledge to create safer working environments. They just don’t have the skills to communicate that information in an effective way.
That’s not a criticism, it’s just a fact, because communicating health, safety, environmental and wellbeing messages is difficult for many reasons…
➡ Safety messages are repetitive, it’s not new information in most cases.
➡ The workforce is often geographically and vocationally diverse.
➡ There’s no universally accessible distribution platform.
➡ The workforce has different levels of competency
➡ There is a constant churn of employees.
➡ Safety has negative perception issues.
I could go on.
But primarily, I believe, the challenge is that there is no finish line.
You never finish the job of safety.
Working in safety must feel like being Sisyphus on most days, forced for eternity to push an immense boulder up a hill, only for it to roll back down at the end of every day. 🏔
It’s a tough job. So, you need help.
My advice would be to think about adding additional skills to your team.
There are many ways to do that, but I would argue that every safety team needs to be able to create video communications.
Video is the most effective way to communicate safety, if you need me to explain why then drop me a message. ⤵
If you want to know how to start using video for your safety comms, then follow me or DM me. ⤵
In the attached film clip I introduce the idea of a ‘SWEETNER’ – essentially a mutually beneficial agreement between a safety client and a video supplier that is based on something other than money.
I included it as an example of what can be achieved when a safety professional works in conjunction with a passionate, skilled video supplier for a mutually beneficial purpose. The result was a CHEAP FAST GOOD project for the client and a piece of work that changed my career drastically.
Now, I’m not proposing that this as a solution for every situation, because it isn’t. But, to find an outstanding solution to your safety challenges you need to explore your options.
Think outside the box.
Attack this safety challenge from a different perspective!
I can help you with that.
