Winterizing the RV with air, RV antifreeze, and preventing damage
Winterizing an RV is a critical step towards preventing serious damage and potentially lessening the lifespan of your expensive rig. We use compressed air to blow out the water lines, fill them with RV Antifreeze, and remove items that can be damaged by freezing temps. Winterizing an RV is neither difficult, nor does it typically require special skills. Just a bit of time and a short list of tasks and you are on your way to storing your camper for the winter months.
A lack of proper winterizing could lead to broken pipes and pumps or other hardware, with a potential of serious water damage to the rig after the broken components thaw.
Leaking food or chemical containers and busted batteries can also result in damage requiring expensive repairs.
We hope this video starts you on your way to a successful winterizing of your camper, RV, Travel Trailer, Fifth wheel, Class A, Class B, Class C, conversion van, or popup.
Here's a short list of things we remove for the winter. If you have other items, please add them in the comments to help other viewers become successful RV'ers too.
Items we remove for the winter:
Food
Shampoo and other hair products
Liquid Cleaners
Herbs and Spices
Batteries and things with batteries such as solar lights, battery powered candles, electric toothbrushes, flashlights, radios, weather stations, clocks, probe style cooking thermometers, computer and cellphone battery backups, bug zappers, etc.
Aerosols like bug sprays, WD40, Bear spray, Sun Block, etc.
If it can split, crack and leak, or has chemicals - take it out or you may have a mess to clean or expensive repairs/replacements come springtime.
Some chemicals won't freeze, but they might separate and could be ruined or become less effective.
"When in doubt, take it out."
