Ambulatory Care ENT during the COVID-19 pandemic

This case was designed during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to improve team preparedness for safely and effectively caring for patients in the out-patient setting.

- Demonstrate aerosol generating procedure workflow in an ENT clinic
- Donning and doffing PPE
- Minimizing people and equipment in room
- Minimizing opening of door during procedure

Case:
You are the otolaryngologist in clinic and your next patient is 36-year old Ms. Craig who is here for an assessment of chronic hoarse voice (ongoing for the past 2 months). She will likely require assessment with nasopharyngoscopy (an aerosol generating procedure).

She has no travel history outside of Canada in the past 2 weeks and no hospitalizations outside of Canada in the past year. She has not been in contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19. She denies fever, cough, rhinorrhea, chills or shortness of breath.

She is otherwise healthy, with no allergies, medical conditions or daily medications. She has a 32 pack-year of smoking (2PPD for the past 16 years).
