RHINO DEHORNING the REALITY (4K)
IF YOU WANT TO HELP - https://gofund.me/3deec9b9
IF YOU CAN'T DONATE - please share and help us raise awareness
Rhino Dehorning is a highly emotive subject.
We helped Niall and his team tell the story of how and why they dehorn their rhinos. We also helped them raise the funds required to pay for the dehorning. You can see how torn it made Niall feel, no one wants to put the animals through that stress, and everyone knows how serious it is, but if it means the rhino's can stay safe, and the owners of the property can stay in the fight to conserve them, then it is worth it.
Dehorning used to be pretty controversial, but has become widely accepted as one of the best ways to sustainably manage rhino populations, in particular on private reserves.
The cost of keeping rhino's has increased exponentially since the poaching crisis began, there is also a huge risk for anyone to have rhino's on their property, as there are professional armed gangs, backed by international organised crime syndicates, that can literally strike anywhere in the country. For these reasons a huge number of private owners are no longer able to afford to keep rhino, and the habitat available to conserve them is shrinking.
There is also a massive psychological impact on the people that dedicate their lives to the conservation of the species. Dehorning gives them some peace of mind.
I've done my best to give an honest and hard hitting account of what it actually means to dehorn rhinos. Feedback or any questions are always welcome!
