An Evening With Luci Baines Johnson and Stewart McLaurin

Join us as we welcome our Friends back to the Lady Bird Johnson Auditorium for a holiday-inspired program with Luci Baines Johnson, daughter of Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson, and Stewart McLaurin, President of the White House Historical Association. Johnson and McLaurin share stories from the Johnsons’ holidays at the White House, discuss Mrs. Johnson’s commitment to the historic preservation of the White House, and the revered annual tradition of the White House Historical Association’s Official White House Christmas Ornament, which is inspired by the Johnson presidency this holiday season.

Mark Updegrove, President and CEO of the LBJ Foundation, moderates the discussion. The program is co-hosted by the LBJ Foundation and the White House Historical Association.

About the speakers:

McLaurin leads the Association’s non-profit and non-partisan mission to support conservation and preservation at the White House with non-government funding. Under his leadership, the association has expanded greatly in mission reach and impact; fundraising results; educational public programming and award-winning publications that teach the story of White House history; and related retail offerings inspired by history.

About the Official 2021 White House Christmas Ornament:

The White House Historical Association's Official 2021 White House Christmas Ornament commemorates the presidency of Lyndon Baines Johnson. One side of the ornament features a painting of the 1967 Blue Room Christmas Tree by Robert H. Laessig, a designer for American Greetings, that Mrs. Johnson commissioned for their card that year. The opposite side of the ornament features a quote from President Johnson: "Our mission is at once the oldest and the most basic of this country: to right wrong, to do justice, to serve man."
