From Policy to Reality: What the Climate Change Act Means in People’s Daily Lives | Just SA

In this roundtable conversation, Just SA, together with GroundWork & Life After Coal, brings together community researchers, activists and experts to unpack what the Climate Change Act really means for people living on the frontlines of pollution and climate impacts in South Africa.

We dive into the key questions raised through the Climate Action Group (CAG) research: Are municipalities ready to implement the Act? Do they understand their new responsibilities? How transparent are corporate polluters, and who is actually monitoring their emissions? Most importantly, how can communities organise, participate, and hold both government and industry accountable?

Through honest dialogue, participants reflect on the gap between policy and lived reality, the challenges of accessing information, and the urgent need for climate literacy, support, and stronger community power. Together, we explore what a meaningful community climate agenda should look like and what it will take to ensure the Climate Change Act delivers justice where it matters most.
