Quick Italian recipes| Tiramisu | Bruschetta | Pasta Puttanesca | Nigel: Devil Wears Prada tribute

Quick Italian recipes for a three course dinner. Tiramisu, Bruschetta, & Pasta Puttanesca.

This tutorial video is a culinary tribute to Nigel in The Devil Wears Prada. Since he doesn't have many scenes involving food this has become more of a tribute to Stanley Tucci and the second film takes place in Italy. Tiramisu, Bruschetta, and pasta puttanesca are three easy dishes you can make for dinner, or on their own.

Tiramisu:
1 cup (250 ml) heavy cream
8 ounces of mascarpone cheese, softened
2 tablespoons icing sugar, divided
1 teaspoon vanilla, divided
Savoiardi (lady finger cookies)
1 cup prepared coffee, or espresso
Hazelnut Liquor (optional)
Chopped hazelnuts, for garnish
Cocoa powder (for dusting)

In a medium bowl combine the heavy cream, 1 tablespoon of icing sugar, and half a teaspoon of the vanilla. Whisk with a wire whisk on medium speed until it's thickened and doubled in size. A wire whisk will help it whip faster. In another bowl add the mascarpone cheese, 1 tablespoon of icing sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla. Mix with beaters until it's smooth. Then gradually mix in the whipped cream with a spatula.

I assembled the tiramisu in glasses, but you can use whatever dish you want. Place a few of the cookies in the glass and spoon over some of the coffee/espresso, pour over some hazelnut liquor. The cookies should absorb the liquid. Add a few spoons of the cream and even out in a layer. Repeat with another layer of cookies, coffee, liquor, and cream. You can garnish with chopped hazelnuts, and dust with cocoa powder. Chill in the fridge for a few hours, or overnight.

Bruschetta
1 small baguette, sliced
1 garlic clove, cut in half
1 tomato, diced
4-5 basil leaves, chopped
Small handful of parsley, chopped
Salt & pepper
1-2 tablespoons olive oil
Parmesan

Slice a small baguette. Brush with olive oil and toast them until they're golden brown. Rub the warm toasts with a cut piece of garlic. In a small bowl combine the chopped tomato, basil, parsley, salt and pepper to your taste and mix together. Spoon the tomato mixture on the toasts and garnish with shavings of parmesan.

Pasta puttanesca
3-4 dried porcini mushrooms
Some hot water
1 shallot, chopped
1 tomato, chopped
1 large garlic clove, chopped
3 anchovies, chopped
1 teaspoon of capers, chopped
Small handful of olives, chopped
1 tablespoon tomato paste
Linguine pasta
Basil and Parsley, for garnish
Parmesan, for garnish

In a small bowl add the porcini mushrooms and cover with hot water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes while you chop the other ingredients. Then remove the mushrooms and chop them. Reserve the liquid.

Meanwhile bring a pot of water to a boil and add a handful of salt. Add the linguine and cook for 9-10 minutes. You can make the sauce while the pasta cooks.

In a large pan over medium heat add some olive oil. Add the chopped shallot, tomato, anchovies, and capers. Let the shallots soften then add the tomato paste and chopped garlic. Continue cooking until the tomatoes are jammy. Add the chopped olives, and chopped porcini mushrooms. Add the liquid from the porcini. Cook until the liquid reduces and then add some chopped basil and parsley. Add the cooked linguine and toss together. Add some shaved parmesan for garnish.
