Whats inside of pinball machines?

Ever opened up a pinball machine and wondered why there's so much empty space in there? Turns out it didn't always used to be that way. A long time ago these things were packed full of relays, switches, motors and score reels that moved the ball around and did the actual computing. Then the 80s hit, all of that got replaced by circuit boards and chips, and suddenly there was room to play with. Here's what we started filling it with, and why pinball is more than just a game.
