Photographing Lancashire | Pennington Flash | Long Exposure and Autumnal Location Revisit

Another local lockdown landscape location where I walk through my long exposure preparation and set up and then revisit some autumnal images shot three weeks prior.

A bimble, stroll and a wander along the edge of Pennington Flash - the lake and surrounding marshland being home to a diverse group of mammals, birds and insects.

The term ‘Flashes’ refers to the lakes on the sites which were formed over time as a result of the mining subsidence, this one being from Bickershaw Colliery in the early 1900s.

Bickershaw is located in the (previous) Lancashire Coalfield, and required the sinking of deep shafts to access the coal. However, access to transport via the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Plank Lane made the distribution of the product relatively easy.

It was closed in March 1992 and after many years of dereliction, the land was finally reclaimed and planning permission granted for redevelopment to accommodate new homes and a marina.

On my walk back to the car, I reflect on the morning's photography and talk about the current Covid 19 lockdown situation.

My channel aims to inspire you to get outside, enjoy nature and the countryside and maybe even take a few images along the way - if you have enjoyed this video please consider subscribing to enjoy future episodes.
