Liszt -- Sonata in B Minor -- Rafael Orozco - 1972

My introduction to Rafael Orozco (1946 to 1996) was through an old, 1960s LP of the Chopin 24 Preludes. This recording was awesome and clearly showed that Orozco was a superb artist. He had won first prize in the 1966 Leeds International Piano Competition in the UK. Later, he recorded the Liszt Sonata in B Minor (5/1972) and this is the work presented here. This is one of the finest performances and recording of this monumental work in my collection. He plays this work with fire and lyricism combined and I think shows what Liszt had in mind when he wrote this great sonata. Later in 1990, he recorded the Liszt sonata again for the Valqis label but I seem to prefer his earlier 1972 version.
