How to Grow Parsley Plants from Seed and How to Speed up Germination.

In this Video we show you how to grow Parsley plants from seed.
Propagation from seed is the favoured method, you can collect your own seed, or let plants self seed.

You can start by germinating the parsley seed indoors, and then plant the small seedlings out into containers, individual pots or directly into the garden.

Seeds can be slow to germinate and will usually take 2 - 3 weeks to show good signs of growth.

They are best planted outdoors after the last frosts have passed. Or plant them earlier indoors. You can speed up germination by treating the seeds with hot water and we show you how to do this.

Although it is said that parsley does not like to be transplanted, it can be done easily as long as the plant is not to large and you do not break the root system.

When transplanting chooses a cool day and water in well with a liquid seaweed fertiliser.

Parsley grows well in a humus rich soil and regular applications of a liquid seaweed fertiliser will be beneficial.

You can begin harvesting parsley as soon as the plants are large enough, generally about 12 inches (30cms) tall, which is usually around 2 - 3 months after planting the seeds.

Seed can be collected from the previous years plants, or you can buy parsley seeds online.

With more varieties than the flat leafed and curly leafed types look for the french variety, Frise Vert Fonce a curled parsley with a stronger taste than most.

Or perhaps Arat, or Hamburg, both which can be used for the roots as well as the foliage.
