The LOCATOR Bounce Technique - Intraoral Scanning Technique for Edentulous Patients!

Have you ever had challenges with intraoral scanning edentulous patients? Dr. Scherer introduces a new concept in intraoral scanning techniques to help address this challenge - The LOCATOR Bounce Technique!

The LOCATOR bounce technique utilizes the Zest Dental Solutions Scan Bodies developed for intraoral scanning for overdentures. The matte finish creates an easy tracking mechanism for an intraoral scanner to track while scanning the ridge. Plus the scan bodies can be used by the laboratory to create an ideal undercut and recess geometry for doing a chairside pick-up of the LOCATOR housings.

The technique is summarized by:
- Dynamically changing the operator's hand position to change optical scanning depth on a moment's notice - the operator "bounces" the scanner up and down
- Holding the soft tissues as steady as possible and scanning while the patient is holding still
- When the patient is moving (floor of the mouth, tongue, lips, cheeks), the operator pulls the scanner away and images just the scan bodies and edentulous ridge. This helps minimize troublesome extraneous soft tissue layering during scanning and keeps the scan focused on the implants and ridge. By "bouncing" the operator keeps the soft tissues away from being picked up by the scanner!
