Molecular Formula | Example 15.13 | Stoichiometry | Chap#15 | Class 10
Stoichiometry
Chapter No.15
Understand Molecular Formula using the classic example of Benzene C6H6
Benzene is the perfect compound to explain the difference between empirical formula and molecular formula In this video we will show how benzene has molecular formula C6H6 which tells us there are 6 carbon atoms and 6 hydrogen atoms in one molecule But its empirical formula is CH which is the simplest whole number ratio of carbon to hydrogen We will solve the full calculation step by step First we find empirical formula mass of CH which is 12 plus 1 equals 13 g per mole Then we divide given molar mass of benzene 78 g per mole by empirical formula mass 13 g per mole to get n equals 6 Finally we multiply empirical formula CH by 6 to get molecular formula C6H6 You will also learn why multiple compounds can have same empirical formula but different molecular formulas and properties
