Amadou Processing, ferro rod fire ignition, flint and steel fail

Processing horse hoof fungus, (Fomes fomentarius) to extract amadou, using two methods: (1) smashing the conk to crush the cortex and flatten it to leather, and (2) slicing the cortex off and then slicing off the thin amadou. With raw dried amadou its easy to catch a spark and start an ember with a ferro rod. I wanted to see if I could use the dried raw amadou to catch a weaker spark off a flint/chert and steel without the need to process further by boiling in wood ash, or charring it. I failed with the flint/chert and steel. With the latter its no problem with good old char cloth, but the sparks don't seem hot or big enough to ignite the amadou. Maybe I am doing something wrong. Tinder bundle fire at the end of grass, cedar bark and cattail fluff, started with a ferro rod on amadou.
