Steel Battalion's Craziest Mechanic

In Steel Battalion (2002), players were required to buy a massive, custom Xbox controller with over 40 buttons, twin joysticks, and foot pedals to simulate piloting a giant robot. The game treated its combat so seriously that if the robot took critical damage, the player had to hit a physical "Eject" button on the controller before the final explosion. If they failed to press that specific button in time, the game would permanently delete their save file to simulate the pilot dying.
