Episode 47: The Heaviest Stone You Can Find | K.G.I. Podcast

When you hold a woman in the dark, ask yourself one question: are you protecting her, or hiding in her? A man shields. A boy hides.
In this episode I walk through the corpses we all keep under our beds — the corruption of our past we refuse to face — and the terror that isn't the smell but the way you stop noticing it, until the rot smells like home. There are two ways to go down into that grave: the boy climbs in and wallows, blaming the world; the man looks, recognizes himself in the corpses, accepts that he is fallible, and covers the grave with the heaviest stone he can find — then carries it the rest of his life like a cross. He needs the weight. It gives him a center, a ground, gravity to be a self around. Throw the stone away and you have no center, you're everywhere at once. The tree only reaches the sky because its roots go down into hell, and the man who carries the stone isn't afraid to be a monster — because he's the only one who ever faced his, which is exactly why he can protect. The clarity costs you the people who only loved the version of you that couldn't smell the rot. But you become the center of your own life. And then, when you hold her in the dark, you hold her to protect her — because now you can.
