#detective interrogationOn the night of May 18, 2021, on the 4300 block of Westerville Road in Blendon Township, Columbus, Ohio, a horrifying case unfolded that would later shock viewers across the country. Antoine Phillips, 32, was accused of leaving his girlfriend, Jamie Vanbuskirk, 35, motionless in the middle of the roadway after a violent argument late that night.

The couple had been trapped in a toxic relationship filled with drugs, violence, emotional instability, and constant conflict for months before everything ended in tragedy. During the interrogation, Antoine repeatedly claimed Jamie ran into the road on her own and insisted he was only trying to get his backpack back. But surveillance footage captured the terrifying final moments of Jamie’s life — from her trying to run away, to being dragged onto the roadway, and ultimately being left helpless in the path of oncoming traffic.

The interrogation footage and CCTV video later became some of the most important evidence presented in court. After a retrial in August 2023, Antoine Phillips was convicted of felony murder and kidnapping in connection with Jamie Vanbuskirk’s death. On September 5, 2023, he was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years.

This remains one of the most disturbing interrogation cases in recent years, especially because the suspect had no idea his actions were being recorded the entire time.
