Emiliano Géant - O cessate di piagarmi.

Aria: O cessate di piagarmi.
Composer: Alessandro Scarlatti (1660-1725).

This dark and intense aria is written in 6/8 and begins with with a tiny introduction of one measure which to me resembles a small boat lost in dark and misty waters. The vocal line appears as the character begs to stop being wounded or at least to be let to die:

O cessate di piagarmi, o lasciatemi morire.

The main emotion in this transparent composition is 'Anxiety' which emerges from an unrequited love for a person who seems cold and deaf to the character's distress.

I included four arias by Alessandro Scarlatti on this album. It seems Alesandro Parisotti was quite fond of him when he decided to include these compositions on his collection.

As it was customary during the baroque, I added my own ornaments and variations as the melody repeats always thinking and feeling the composition to make it feel as if it was actually written. I pay close attention to not just ornament for the sake of ornamenting, I feel the composition and then let my imagination reconstruct a version which fits within not only the style, but the spirit of the piece.
