Hip Pain Rehabilitationa: Addressing Dynamic Lumbopelvic-Hip Girdle Stability | Phase 2
This former collegiate runner came to Evolve Physical Therapy with right-sided hip pain. His journey began with a right ankle sprain that led to leg pain, weakness, and reduced activity levels. In this video, you'll see him performing an advanced exercise to enhance dynamic lumbopelvic-hip girdle stability. By engaging the contralateral (opposite) arm to the stance leg (gluteal engagement) in a rowing motion, he activates the latissimus dorsi to create force closure, providing stability for the sacroiliac (SI) joint and pubic symphysis. Our ultimate goal is to improve his lumbopelvic-hip stability.
A posterior oblique muscle sling is believed to be created with the synergistic contractions of the contralateral latissimus dorsi and gluteus maximus. This provides stability for the SI joint, pelvis, and hip.
The sacrotuberous ligament and biceps femoris also contribute to the force closure mechanism.
REMEMBER: The superficial layer of the thoracolumbar facia is the attachment for the latissimus doors and gluteus maximus.
✅ Neutral spine
✅ Controlled movement
✅ Diaphragmatic breathing
As always — train both legs!
Effective and efficient rehab is criterion-based, not time-based.
🔹Move Better 🔹Feel Better 🔹Live Better
