FTC Fiber Plowing

Today, we're going to talk with Jim Gregory and learn about the process of plowing fiber.

Well, it takes a lot of resources. We have many excavators, as you can see over here. Digging across the ditches it takes larger ones because of the depth of the ditches. We have the quad-track plows, which is right behind me, the RT125 is the newest plow that Ditch Witch's offers, and we have several of them out here. We have directional boring machines. We can do shots up to 12, 1400 foot. We can bring in smaller drills, 50 foot, 60 foot, 40 foot. As you can see, all these driveways and road crossings we have here, and we have three different machines here right now working in my company, and we have more coming.

How about a driveway? You come up, you get to somebody's house over there, you got to go to the driveway, what do you do?

Well, you bring in the small drill for these driveways and we'll shoot the driveways, every driveway. We'll put pipe in there, and as we bring our fiber through it, we'll pull our fiber through it, and then we'll plow it. Dig our holes on each end, lower the pipe down the proper depth, and then we'll plow it in.

How deep?

Four foot is our, 42 inches is the standard, what FTC is requiring from us, 42 inches, 48 inches is where we'd like to be.

Some of our customers, they're going to see the signs that say fiber being drilled here. What can you tell them about the cleanup process?

It should be very little. We will tamp, rake, seed, and if need be straw, but this South Carolina grass grows so fast. First good rain it's coming right back up, but we do take the time to run it right over ribs, flatten out the grounds, make it easy for the mowers. We will rake it, we hand rake it and, of course, if there's anyone who's not satisfied with the cleanup in the yard, contact us. We'll come right back over there and get it leveled out. We take a lot of pride in our cleanup, and I think they should actually look for very little damage to their property, very little.
