If you 're watching this video there's a good chance you have no heating or hot water, but don't worry by the time you've watched this video you should have a much better idea about how to solve your problem.

Modern boilers are clever enough to know when they are running at low pressure, when this happens they will shut down and stop running. This is because low system pressure can be detrimental to your boiler and its components.

In this video I show you the simplest and easiest way to top up the pressure on your boiler, but unfortunately different boilers have filling valves which are built into the boiler. So if you don't see a filling valve like the one I show you then you are going to need to find out which boiler you have and how the built in filling loop operates in order to top up the pressure in your boiler.

In order to top up the pressure on your boiler you're going to need to locate the pressure gauge, some boilers have digital pressure gauges which are only visible by accessing the menu on the boilers on board computer. But in this video we have a mechanical pressure gauge which shows a green area to indicate where you should top up the pressure on the boiler.

This is how simple it is, if you watch the video you'll see 2 black levers on the valves that are used to top up your pressure on your boiler. The black levers on the filling valves are usually facing across from the direction of the valve, this means that the valves are turned off. In order to top up the pressure on your boiler you'll need to rotate the valves by 90 degrees which will allow water into the system and top up the pressure on your boiler.

Be sure to turn off the valves once you have reached the desired pressure so that you don't over put too much pressure into your boiler. Once you get to the pressure you need to be at your boiler will kick in and begin to run again.

Common questions we get asked with regards to topping up the pressure on your boiler is "how much pressure should you put into the boiler", the answer to this depends really on how hot the system is at the time of topping up.

My sweet spot for the correct pressure is 1.5bar - when the system is cold, this gives the system a buffer of pressure to allow for a slight loss due to air release etc.

If the system is already hot then its not a bad idea to top the pressure up to around 2 - 2.5 bar. This gives the system a buffer of pressure to allow for a decrease in pressure when the system cools down.

If you need to top up your boiler pressure on your boiler often then it indicates that you either have a leak on your boiler or central system or your boiler needs a service.

Hopefully you have found this video showing you how to top up the pressure on your boiler useful, if you need any more information about topping up the pressure on your boiler please get in touch.
