This concept has been one of the fundamental shifts I've had in clinical practice, and it eluded me for a long time until the clinical "ah-ha" moment during a discussion with Louis Gifford. I urge all clinicians to consider this. When a patient tells you his or her story and you gather the information – subjective and objective examination - you end up reaching certain conclusions. In traditional biomedical education we immediately take aim at: "Is this a disc? If so, what level? Which side? What type of disc lesion?"
