A History of Research on Genetics

Deoxyribonucleic acid, commonly referred to as simply DNA, is presently known to be the molecule of inheritance in living organisms, responsible for the existence of all known life on Earth. Although this seems fairly clear in the modern day, this was not always the case, as the study of biology, and genetics in particular, is a fairly recent science. For several hundred years scientists have worked to understand the secrets of life and what controls it, from the earliest experiments with plants to sequencing entire genomes.
