Celebrating Dr. Jessica B. Harris, High on the Hog author, culinary historian & scholar
Oldways is honored to present Dr. Jessica B. Harris with the K. Dun. Gifford award, an award named for our founder that honors an exceptional New Englander who has positively impacted our local foodways.
Dr. Jessica B. Harris is an American culinary historian, professor, cookbook author and journalist who has documented the foods and foodways of the African Diaspora. Her book High on the Hog inspired the recent Netflix series of the same name!
Dr. Jessica B. Harris is also longtime friend of Oldways and is a member of Oldways’ African Heritage & Health Advisory Committee with strong ties to New England, as a frequent visitor to Martha’s Vineyard. We'll present the award virtually to Dr. Harris at The Readable Feast 2021.
