Wing Commander Divya Yadav an ATC officer posted to a frontline fighter base in Northern Sector. For her, the day starts even before the sun rises to make all the necessary preparations before the aircraft take to the skies. Activities such as runway inspections, check of safety services, planning of air traffic including arrival and departure sequence, co-ordination of traffic with adjacent ATC units are undertaken with clockwork precision. An IAF ATC officer employs dynamic procedures to fulfil the special requirement of military air traffic which are quite different from civil air traffic. With more and more IAF aerodromes opening up for civil traffic to facilitate the flexible use of national airspace, ATC officers are successfully employing military as well as civil procedures to establish and maintain safety. It is important to mention that no two traffic scenario is the same and in case you are able to achieve the objectives, job satisfaction is instant.
