Hurricane IRMA from Key West, Florida

Video compilation from our coverage of Category 4 Hurricane Irma from the Lower Florida Keys on September 10-11, 2017, mostly from Key West as the eye of Irma made landfall just to the east at Cudjoe Key, FL with maximum sustained winds of 130 mph.

Hurricane Irma was the first category 4 storm to make landfall in the Continental United States since Hurricane Charlie in August 2004. Hurricane Irma reached peak intensity in the open Atlantic Ocean on September 6, 2017 with maximum sustained winds of 185 mph, minimum pressure of 914 mb, and was the first category 5 to strike any portion of the Leeward Islands in recorded history. Islands like Barbuda, Saint Martin, Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, and northern Cuba were absolutely flattened by Hurricane Irma near peak intensity, with a devastating storm surge causing the worst damage in the lower Florida Keys like Cudjoe, Big Pine, through Marathon and even Key Largo.

This video shows our coverage for Accuweather, edited by Andy Coates of @a1986production Storm chase partner Mike Theiss @extremenature with the Hurricane Eyewall Research Vehicle (HERV)
