Catheter Video for applying a Male External Catheter Part 2

Part 2 of our Catheter video for applying a Male External Catheter. As from Part 1, in this part of the video you will see that we are using the Conveen Optima Sport option.

Once the catheter is placed on the head of the penis, you use the pull tab to pull it towards the body. This will unroll the catheter so that you never have to actually touch it while applying it. This is great for people of have trouble with manual dexterity, or a nurse or caregiver is putting it on while wearing gloves. The adhesive is lined in the sheath so there is no worry of coming in contact with it. Once rolled down it is now against the skin creating a seal.

Make sure that the catheter is rolled down to the base of the penis so that roll of the condom catheter is eliminated. Make a fist around the penis and hold it for about 5 seconds. This will ensure that the catheter and the adhesive inside are good and in place. You can see from the video that it will not come off on its own when done correctly.

Each catheter is a life of about 24 hours. There is no need to use any tapes on the outside of it. When connecting the leg bag to the tip of the catheter make sure that you insert the connector as far as you can into the tip of the catheter. This will ensure that it will not come off of the catheter.

An easy way to remove the catheter is to do it in the shower. Warm soapy water is one way to roll off the catheter. If that is still difficult try using a little baby oil to work under the catheter and ease it off that way. You want to make sure that your skin and good and dry with no oily residue on the skin afterward. This will prevent a good proper seal when you apply the next catheter. Make sure to use soaps that do not contain any lanolin of moisturizes. A Dial or Ivory soap is best to use. This will leave your skin good and dry ready for your next application.
