Edgar Villanueva | Decolonizing Wealth | SkollWF 2019
Edgar Villanueva, an expert in social justice philanthropy and author of Decolonizing Wealth, encourages those working in philanthropy to lean into the uncomfortable history of how wealth was accumulated and to "give money away in a way that respects history." He believes that the same wealth that inflicted trauma can also be used to facilitate healing and connection.
Edgar Villanueva is a nationally-recognized expert on social justice philanthropy. Edgar currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of Native Americans in Philanthropy and is a Board Member of the Andrus Family Fund. He currently serves as Vice President of Programs and Advocacy at the Schott Foundation for Public Education where he oversees grant investment and capacity building supports for education justice campaigns across the United States. Edgar is the author of Decolonizing Wealth, which offers hopeful and compelling alternatives to the dynamics of colonization in the philanthropic and social finance sectors.
