Racing the 2021 Yamaha Superjet and VX Cruiser HO | PowerBoat Television

On a chilly fall day on Georgian Bay, we got the opportunity to play on a couple of wicked new Yamaha toys: the 2021 VX Cruiser HO and the all-new Superjet, recently relaunched after a short hiatus from production. We set up a figure-8 course to see who could do more laps before freezing out on the Superjet.

Originally launched in 1990 with a 633cc 50hp two-stroke engine, the Superjet is back with Yamaha's three-cylinder, four-stroke 1049cc TR-1 engine. Weighing in at only 375lbs and boasting a top speed of 54mph, the classic stand-up PWC has been redesigned with a new hull, new jet, new pole and a digital fuel gauge.

On the other side, Yamaha's VX Cruiser HO has borrowed the high performance, light-weight NanoXcel 2 hull from its racing counterparts for an impressively quick and responsive ride. For 2021, the seat has been narrowed by an inch and a half for better ergonomics. Built-in bluetooth speakers, expanded storage and touchscreen display this is a recreation-class PWC that's built with performance in mind.
