2005 Chevy Colorado How to fix electrical issues. Power Stays on after key is removed & door closed

This addresses some of the electrical issues owners of these trucks may experience Colorado or GMC Canyon. How come the power to the radio and dash stays on after the key is removed and the driver has opened and closed the door. This condition will weaken the battery and leave you stranded if not corrected.
