Beneath the sun-baked ruins of Pompeii lies a world few ever see. As I walk through the tunnel under the ancient amphitheatre, you can almost hear the roar of the crowds echoing through time; sandals scraping stone, gladiators breathing deep before battle, the muffled thunder of footsteps above.

Built more than 2,000 years ago, this was Europe’s oldest surviving amphitheatre, older than Rome’s Colosseum and here, life & death once played out before thousands of spectators. Today, silence replaces the cheers and dust replaces the glory… but the energy still lingers in the stones.
