Every app is an iceberg. What you see — buttons, animations, colours — is just the tip. The massive invisible part underneath is called the backend.

When you tap "like" on Instagram, the red heart animation is frontend. But in the same 100ms, the backend is updating a database row, sending a notification, incrementing a counter, logging the event, and running a machine learning model to update your recommendations feed.
