dedolight California: working with parallel beam and reflected light
Lightstream is a powerful reflecting system by dedolight that starts with a focussing light and a Parallel Beam Intensifier. The light is focussed into a reflector and then redirected to wherever the cinematographer chooses.
Different reflectors with varying amounts of reflective quality are used to direct the light. The reflectors have different characteristics according to which numbered reflector you use. There are a total of 4 different reflectors shown in the demo, however, recently, dedolight have introduced a 5th reflector for the Lightstream system.
It is also possible to create multiple sources from a single light, using Lightstream. The light source is focussed with parallel beam, into a reflector and directed to wherever the cinematographer chooses, and at same time, also redirected into another reflector - the result being that more than one light source is created with a single light.
In this demo it is shown how to to achieve a key light and backlight out a single light.
The key to Lightstream is the Parallel Beam Intensifier; this lens is a computer calculated optical ele-mentwhich connects to the front of the dedolight. The combination of light with Parallel Beam Intensifier and reflector/s, enables a unique character of light to be achieved - which is very different to conventional lighting.
With Lightstream often the light can appear as if it is coming from far away; Lightstream can be used to replicate sunlight; overall, the dedolight Lightstream system provides a different way of working, which uses less equipment, provides quicker setups, and produces a natural quality of light which is difficult to achieve in any other way.
The Lightstream system is suitable for high end drama, interviews, table top work, or any subject you need to light.
While the process is different to conventional lighting the results speak for themselves - already Lightstream has been used on all types of productions, including: feature films, TV commercials, lighting in television studios; the Lightstream system is attracting high levels of interest from cinematographers throughout the world.
“The magic that comes off of these reflectors from using dedolights with Parallel Beam Intensifiers is like nothing you’ve ever seen. It’s simple to work with, it’s elegant, it’s logical, but what makes this so unique is being able to use it as part of a system with Parallel Beam Intensifiers. That is where the magic all happens - hands down - and that’s not something that exists anywhere else and its something that potentially could change the way we light - on every level.”
