🎓 1. University Entrance Qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung – HZB)
The most essential requirement is the HZB, which proves that you are eligible to study at a German university.

For International Students:
If you completed secondary school outside Germany, your diploma must be recognized as equivalent to the German Abitur (high school diploma).

You can check your qualification on Anabin or DAAD's database**.

Scenarios:
Your Education Is it Directly Eligible? Notes
German Abitur ✅ Yes You can directly apply.
EU Secondary School Certificate (e.g., A-levels, Baccalauréat) ✅ Usually yes Depending on subjects and grades.
Non-EU Certificates (e.g., Indian 12th, US High School Diploma) ❌ Usually not required. You may need to attend a Studienkolleg first.
IB Diploma ✅ Often yes. Must meet specific subject/grade requirements.

🏫 2. Studienkolleg (Foundation Year) – if your diploma is not directly recognized
A 1-year preparation course at a German university.

Ends with the Feststellungsprüfung (university qualification exam).

Taught in German, so a B2/C1 level is required.

📚 3. Language Proficiency
If studying in German:
You must pass one of the following exams:

DSH-2 or DSH-3 (Deutsche Sprachprüfung)

TestDaF (Level 4 in all 4 sections)

Goethe-Zertifikat C2

telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule

If studying in English:
You need one of:

TOEFL iBT (usually ≥ 80–100)

IELTS (≥ 6.0–7.0)

Cambridge C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency

📄 4. Other Documents Required
School-leaving certificate (translated and certified)

Transcript of grades

Passport copy

Motivation letter or CV (optional but recommended)

Passport-sized photos

APS Certificate (for applicants from India, Vietnam, China)

Winter Semester: Apply by July 15

Summer Semester: Apply by January 15
(Some universities may have different or earlier deadlines.)

🧾 7. Visa and Financial Proof
For non-EU students: You need a student visa and proof of financial resources (typically ~€11,208/year in a blocked account).
