How to make FLUFFY poppy seed BUNS
In this video, I show you how to make extremely fluffy poppy seed buns! These buns are the perfect comfort food for the Christmas season. They require some time, but trust me, waiting has never tasted better!
Here is the recipe:
For the buns:
- 1 cup room-temperated plantbased milk
- 1 pack dry yeast
- 1/4 cup neutral oil
- 1 Tbsp coconut sugar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- pinch of oil
For the filling:
- 1/2 cup poppy seeds
- 1/2 plantbased butter (I use soy butter)
- 1/3 cup coconut sugar
For the topping:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- water
Method:
- in a bowl, mix mylk with oil, 1 Tbsp coconut sugar and yeast; set aside for 7-10 minutes to activate the yeast (foam will form).
- add flour 1 cup at a time; add pinch of salt; mix until the dough is soft and slightly sticky (I needed 2.5 cups)
- transfer dough to slightly floured surface; knead the dough for 1-2 minutes; form a dough ball.
- coat bowl with 1 Tbsp neutral oil; add dough; swirl to cover dough with oil.
- cover bowl with a towel and set aside for 1-1.5 hours or until dough has doubled in size.
- shortly knead dough on slightly floured surface again; roll into a rectangular with 0.5-1 cm thickness.
- for the filling, melt the butter and add the poppy seeds and the remaining coconut sugar.
- spread the filling evenly across the dough: roll the dough from one end to the other; cut into slices of about 3-4 cm.
- transfer rolls to slightly greased baking pan; set aside for 30 minutes.
- preheat oven to 180°C/350°F.
- bake rolls for 20-25 min or until a wooden pick comes out clean.
- allow rolls to cool down before adding frosting.
- for the frosting, add a few Tsp water to 1 cup powdered sugar and mix until sugar is completely dissolved.
- add frosting on top of poppy seed rolls.
