NRP Megacode Scenario 6 | ACLS Certification Association
Work through the sixth case-based newborn emergency in our NRP Megacode series. This delivery room simulation presents another time-sensitive neonatal scenario that pushes you to assess quickly, choose the most appropriate next step, and carry out interventions using current NRP principles.
In this scenario, you’ll strengthen your ability to:
✅ Recognize important clinical findings and respond without delay
✅ Apply the NRP algorithm in the correct sequence under pressure
✅ Communicate effectively while leading or supporting the resuscitation team
🩺 Scenario Highlights (⚠️WARNING⚠️: might contain some answer clues/spoilers):
◾ A 39-week infant is delivered not breathing and bradycardic at 56 bpm, prompting initial steps (warm, dry, stimulate, suction) and PPV with a T-piece.
◾ After 15 seconds of PPV, the heart rate climbs first to 80 bpm and then 102 bpm, allowing transfer to the NICU.
◾ NICU care focuses on potential respiratory issues and avoiding routine suctioning unless necessary to maintain oxygenation.
◾ If hypotension develops, positive inotropes may be used to improve cardiac output.
◾ Hypoglycemia is the most common postresuscitation electrolyte imbalance.
This video is valuable training for:
✅ Labor & Delivery Nurses
✅ Neonatal Nurses
✅ Respiratory Therapists
✅ Neonatologists & Pediatricians
✅ Paramedics & EMTs
✅ All healthcare providers involved in newborn and neonatal resuscitation
💬 As you watch, pause at each major decision point and think through what you would do next. Post your approach in the comments and compare your reasoning with other learners.
📌 Watch for more NRP Megacode scenarios, neonatal emergency simulations, and critical care training videos designed to help you sharpen your judgment and prepare for real clinical situations.
