Over the years, he would walk into WrestleMania matches either putting on the best matches or being involved in a world title fight. Kurt Angle was a bonafide star. Let’s fast forward to 2006. Angle was in the prime of his career at 37 years old with plenty of years left in the tank. He holds the championship in the beginning of the year. Rey Mysterio defeats him to become the World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania 22. WWE drafts Kurt Angle to ECW since they want to rebuild that entire brand.

Things look great for him. The same cannot be said behind the scenes. Kurt Angle was extremely addicted to painkillers and also wanted a part time schedule because he needed to recover from many injuries. After a meeting with Vince McMahon, WWE officially released Kurt Angle. He was considered a risky superstar because he refused to enter rehab. McMahon didn’t want another superstar dying in his company.

Vince also couldn’t agree to his part time deal. It was better to just part ways. Kurt Angle was still offered rehab even after getting released, but he still refused. TNA quickly signed Kurt Angle where he would wrestle for another decade against the likes of AJ Styles, Samoa Joe and Sting. Many people like to question how things would have turned out for Angle's career if he stayed in WWE.
