Trains at Bayswater - Transperth
In this video we visit Bayswater, a station in Perth's eastern suburbs that serves as the junction for the Airport and Midland lines. Here we see see some Transperth A series EMU's on Midland Line services, and B Series EMU's on Airport Line services. Because both the Airport and Midland lines run every 15 minutes during the day; there's a train every 7.5 minutes in either direction making for some very frequent rail action. We also take a quick look at the infamous Bayswater Bridge; which only has a height of 3.8 meters and quite prone to consuming overheight trucks. It's the Perth cousin of Melbourne's Montague Street bridge.
Bayswater station opened in 1896 around the time the Midland Line was duplicated. The original station consisted of two side platforms and a nice large historic station building with a footbridge (according to photos on Google). Like many stations along the Midland Line it was rebuilt into an island platform in the late 1960's when the standard gauge line was constructed through Perth to access the the East Perth terminal. The station became the junction for the Airport Line when it opened on the 9th October 2022.
While train stations in Perth are generally well-maintained I feel as though Bayswater is showing its age and needs some TLC and a good lick of paint. However it doesn't matter... because Bayswater station is being completely rebuilt! Bayswater will soon become the junction for the Morley - Ellembrook Line which is slated to open in 2024. With Bayswater set to become a three-way junction, the station is being rebuilt into a new elevated four-platform station. Construction is set to be completed by 2024 (I assume because there's no definitives on the project webpage and that's when the new line is set to open)
