How to make a diamond stitched stool top

In this video I’ll take you through the process of making a diamond stitched stool top. I should point out that this is a beginner’s guide because that precisely what I am……….a complete novice! A week before shooting this video I had no previous experience making upholstery least of all knowing the right end of a sewing machine!!

My aim in this video is to hopefully give you everything you need including a step by step guide so you” don’t get scared of the diamond stitch” and give this a go. I had a great time making it and got such satisfaction from the end result, so if I can do this then………..so can you.

The Vinyl upholstery cloth is expanded vinyl on a cotton backing and as there are so many options like grain, grade, colours and textures that it’s impossible to list them all. In the UK I looked at places where they sold by the meter and there are plenty of options.
I spoke to these guys on the phone and they were super helpful, I got the black expanded vinyl, scrim 3mm backing foam (I would do more research on the type and size), and the 3mm plastic piping. https://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/

That’s all the main materials used in the video apart from the sewing machine of course, but as I already owned this before I started then I’ll leave this out.
