How to decide on dimensions:
-consider your space you have to work with and decide the best size (be sure to consider how easily you can transport the materials).
-I've found it very helpful to sketch out my beds and label the dimensions before going to the store to make sure I choose the right lengths and cuts.
-2x6s are actually more like 1.5x5.5 in reality so when you stack 3 for the sides its only 16.5" tall instead of 18"
-You'll also want to consider this for the length and width when deciding how long your boards should be cut to. If you want the outer dimensions of your 60"x30" you'll want your longer boards cut to 60" but your shorter ones 27" in order to achieve the full 30".
-If you don't have the ability to haul large uncut boards and need to rely on having the hardware store cut them for you be aware that the person cutting them will not be checking measurements 2-3x before cutting so things won't be as precise as they may be if you were cutting them with a circular saw yourself. Some workers tend to cut better then others. The boards will be fine, but you may notice they won't look "perfect" when you line things up to screw in.
-if your building bigger beds like the one in this video, they can get pretty heavy, so it may be easier to build it as close to where they will be in the garden as possible.
