British Airways 747s at the Welsh Scrapyard. St Athan, Wales. 8 September 2021
Here is another film looking at where some of the British Airways 747s have ended their working lives. This time I visited St Athan Airport, close to Cardiff airport and one of the 2 main airports in the UK where British Airways sent their 747s for scrap or "part out" as it is properly known.
Only 2 747s remain at St Athan; one being virtually dismantled already, as seen in this film (G-BYGG). Across the airfield, although not accessible for close photography, I also captured G-BYGD, looking largely intact except for the presence of its' engines.
The BOAC retro 747, G-BYGC is also stored on the site and I have made a separate film specifically looking at this aircraft.
It is a sad sight seeing G-BYGG so near to complete dismantling - another few weeks and there will be nothing left but memories of this aircraft.
As with my Kemble Cotswold 747 films, I've included within this film, footage of these same aircraft when they were in daily operation at London Heathrow.
RIP Queen of the Skies....
