His excuse for wanting my ID is exactly why he should not have it -

I walk down the street with my cameras - a house of worship maybe near - maybe a post office - a bank - it doesn't matter to me - I am friendly to every single car and to every person on bike or foot - I will oblige and not record you if you say please ( the magic word - mom taught you ) - I might wander into government buildings and check on government employees in the course of their duty - I record what happens to me - this is what happened on this day walking down the street saying good morning to everyone -

Basically, with a few exceptions, it is actually perfectly legal for strangers to photograph or videotape your child, and they are free to post or publish the images as well.Contrary to what many parents believe, they do not need to give their consent or sign a release.
A good thing to remember if you are talking to the police - their body cams are public information - they are recording everything you say - anyone can FOIA request them ( Freedom Of Information Act ) - often they take you in private to talk - those conversations are not private if they have a body cam on
