Inside the unprecedented manhunt for Australia's "Most wanted man" | 60 Minutes Australia

In 2012 as police caught up with Australia's most wanted man - Malcolm Naden, forensic psychiatrist Paul Mullen explained how people like Naden could last on the run in the unforgiving bush environment for seven years - the longest manhunt in the country's history.

Now, police are faced with another bushland search. The manhunt continues for accused cop killer Dezi Freeman, who was last seen fleeing into the dangerous and complex Victorian high country.

The suspect is alleged to have opened fire on a group of 10 police on August 26, as they attempted to execute a search warrant related to alleged historic child sex offences. Two officers were killed and one was wounded in the shooting ambush at his Porepunkah property.

Locals say Freeman "knows the bush like the back of his hand".
