How to replace engine cooling fan resistor in Kia Sportage

If the engine cooling fan isn’t working properly in your Kia Sportage, it could be due to a faulty cooling fan resistor. In this video, I’ll show you step by step how to replace the engine cooling fan resistor in a 4th generation Kia Sportage.

The cooling fan resistor is mounted on the fan shroud and controls the fan’s low and high speed settings, helping regulate engine temperature. When it fails, your fan may only run at full speed or not at all on low speed, which can cause overheating issues.

I'll show you how to disconnect the connectors, remove the resistor, install the new one with the correct torque specs, and reconnect everything securely. I’ll also explain what else to check if your fan still doesn’t work after replacing the resistor, such as the fan relay, fan motor, wiring harness, or the engine coolant temperature sensor (ECT).

This repair is simple, inexpensive, and can prevent costly damage like overheating or even a blown head gasket if ignored.
