Making a Simple, DIY Rocket Stove w/ a Ryobi Turboboost | Beginner Welding

First off, I know some people are going to take issue with the use of 'simple' and 'diy' in the title of a welding project video, but this IS a simple project and can done with nothing more than an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel and a flap disk, a $100 flux core welder from Harbor Freight (what I used) and a drill. Simple doesn't mean there is no effort involved and DIY doesn't mean you don't need any tools, so get over it and go make something.

I've been looking for simple projects to practice my welding on and recently discovered rocket stoves and decided to put one together. This borrows ideas from several builds I found on YouTube. Overall I'm pretty happy with it but one thing I would change, and might change on this one, is the grate at the end of the feed chute. Mine is currently angled but I think it might work better if the grate were flat. I might cut the chimney right below the feed chute, remove the current grate and make a slightly smaller one so it will fit perpendicular to the chimney and then weld it back together.

Most of it is made from 4x6" steel tube with 4x4" tube for the air inlet and 12x12" 1/4" plate for the base, all of which I picked up from the remnants area of my local metal supplier. If I had purchased full lengths instead of offcuts, I probably would have used 4x4" or 6x6" square tube instead. This was cheaper though. All in I think it was $18 worth of steel.

I used the Ryobi blower as a bellows of sorts to force more air through and get the white oak chunks I was using lit a little quicker. White oak burns well, but sometimes it's a little stubborn getting started.
